will visit the national mall this weekend. there is plenty to see. the big draw is the smithsonian folk-like festival. paul rafael gives a look at what makes this question popular. >> reporter: thousands of people descended on the national mall. it's the smithsonian life festival, 45 years strong. the event is held for two weeks every summer, overlapping with the 4th of july holiday. this year's festival includes three unique programs. >> one program features the cultural traditions of colombia and looking at communities throughout colombia and the way they work with nature to express their culture. another program we're presenting is on rhythm and blues and the third presents the peace corpses for the 50th anniversary. >> reporter: there was something for everyone where, it's food or live music like this and to get your groove on. sure, there is plenty of locals in the crowd but this festival is known for attracting visitors from all over the world. >> where are you from? >> new york. >> colombia. >> india. >> chattanooga, tennessee. >> reporter: and the draw? the cultural experience.

degrees and annapolis. the temperatures are going to be a big factor. take a look to the deep south. they have had triple dem the highs with a major, major heat wave over the course of the last few days and right now, the temperatures into the 90s and this is going to slide up the eastern seaboard. the clear skies for tonight, a pretty nice night out there with the full moon and not much is happening. the ridge of high pressure is off the coast and influencing our weather pattern allowing a lot of warm, moist air to move up to the seaboard and that is what we're going to see happen the course of the next few days. by the time monday and tuesday roll around, we'll be dealing with a cold front and that will gradually sag to the south and ws around the mason-dixon line by monday night and tuesday, week see some of that kicking across areas of the other parts of the mid-atlantic. in the meantime, the heat and humidity pushing through by late week and temperatures being 100 degrees or more and that is going to feel warmer with the humidity and some dangerous heat. the temperatures into t
